When I was looking for a Chiropractor, I had my reservations. I have been to Chiropractors before as a teen, when I was diagnosed with double scoliosis (upper back and lower back). I would go with my mom have my back cracked and go home to feel better for that day only. That was definitely not the kind of Chiropractor that I was searching for this time around, because I knew better. The back cracker as I called him did not make my back pain any better in the long run, only in that moment and day. My mother stopped taking me and I haven’t seen one in years, until recently. These were my search criteria:
- Doctor of Chiropractor
- Beyond the title of Chiropractor
- Uses a different technique
- Close to home
- Believes in natural remedies, not just medicine
Doctor of Chiropractor
I wanted to make sure the chiropractor wasn’t just any old back cracker I wanted to make sure he had the title of Doctor and possibly know more than the other chiropractors. The other chiropractors that I’ve been to, were just all about taking your money, I didn’t need that, especially when I don’t even have the money to do so.
Beyond the Title of Chiropractor
I didn’t just want his title to be Doctor of Chiropractor; I wanted to make sure he was on the more natural/alternative approach in lifestyle. The Chiropractor that I found was also Doctor of Naturopathy and his website even stated that he does nutritional counseling and has massage therapists on site. Although I knew I didn’t need the massage therapists since my mom is one and I try to follow a healthy lifestyle, at least he would be able to do certain tests like a hair mineral analysis test (which would be useful for my kids).
Uses a Different Technique
I didn’t want the technique of just cracking my back and being done with me. I didn’t even know that there were different techniques until I discovered my new Chiropractor. He uses a gentler approach in his adjustments. No more back cracking, using this gentler adjustment, I felt much more improvement in even a small amount of visits.
Close to Home
Although, I don’t always mind traveling a bit to see a good doctor, when I have to take my kids, it’s always better to be as close to home as possible. Also, when I was in too much pain/numbness to drive, my husband was able to drive me and still make it in time for work. On another note, since we’re already struggling financially and I have a 6 cylinder SUV, it helps whenever we can to save on gas.
Believes in Natural Remedies, Not Just Medicine
This part of the criteria the answer won’t come through the website, it’ll be through conversations with the doctor. When I heard his views on medicine and only using in extreme cases (when necessary) and upon viewing his office, I knew that he was more on the natural side of things. The office was full of essential oils, CBD oil, supplements, and inspiring quotes, it was a good fit.
This was extremely important for me, especially during the times of financial struggles. If it were up to a certain part of me, I wouldn’t go at all, due to finances, but the other side of me knew that this pain couldn’t go on without outside help. The other part of the cost was that I would need to pay out of pocket. This Chiropractor definitely helped me out with a payment plan that would suit our needs.
When you find a great Chiropractor that could also serve as a more natural doctor, I highly recommend sticking with him/her. I wanted to share with you what my specific criteria in finding a good Chiropractor were that shared my views on natural approaches; maybe it could help you in your search as well.
