Yesterday, I wanted to take my family to the beach, since we finally had some nice weather worth going to the beach. But, I did not have any sunscreen on hand, especially since this beach trip was unplanned. That meant that I couldn’t go to my usual organic/more natural friendly stores Whole Foods and Wegman’s, since I was also pressed for time (it was already afternoon). I decided to go to my local area stores instead (2-5 minutes away). The choices I had were Shop rite, Rite Aid, CVS, and Marshall’s.
First, I drove to Shop rite, since I also needed to grab some snacks and drinks for our beach trip. While I found Organic, Gluten-free, and Grain-free snacks and drinks, I could not find any kind of organic/natural mineral sunscreen. After I bought the snacks and drinks, I decided to continue my search for the organic/natural mineral sunscreen and drove to the next store, Rite Aid (which I thought might have some more natural alternatives). To my surprise, Rite Aid did not have any organic/natural mineral sunscreen either, although it did have more than one brand there. My search continued the next store, I saw CVS (which didn’t come to mind until I saw it), but something told me to continue to Marshall’s and if I didn’t find it there, then on my way back I would stop at CVS. When I arrived at Marshall’s it didn’t take me too long to find the sunscreen section, which mainly was in clearance. As, I looked through the sunscreens; I saw a lot more variety of brands than the other two stores. Searching for a natural mineral sunscreen, since I kind of gave up on organic at this point because of the other two stores. There it was!! An actual organic mineral sunscreen to my surprise!! It was for babies, which is fine with me since usually that means there’s less chemicals and its safer. It wasn’t one of the brands that I was hoping to find, but I couldn’t be that picky now and it had a bit more ingredients than I would have liked, but it was the best alternative that I could find.
Of course, by the time we actually got to the beach we didn’t need sunscreen (which wasn’t the plan). But, at least I’ll be better prepared for next time.
Is it hard to find organic/natural products at your local stores? What are your methods when you need something the same day, but don’t want to go out of your way?
